May the Peace and Light of Christ be with you all!

It is time to celebrate Epiphany!!

What is Epiphany? Why do we celebrate it?

I’m so glad you asked!! The word Epiphany means ‘manifestation’ or ‘revelation’ and is commonly linked in Western Christianity with the visit of the wise men (Magi) to the Christ child. Through the Magi, Christ revealed himself to the gentiles. In Eastern Christianity, Epiphany puts emphasis on the baptism of Jesus by John, revealing himself to the world as God's own Son.

Also known as “Three Kings Day” and “Twelfth Day” Epiphany falls on the twelfth day after Christmas and we celebrate the fact that God revealed God’s self to humankind in the form of Jesus Christ.

The Scriptures tell us that when the Magi are on their journey to the place where the Christ child was, “when they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy.” (Matt 2:10)

We invite you to join us at Christ Church while you journey this new year. We invite you to wonder with us what life would be like to experience it ‘overwhelmed with joy!’

Like the Magi, we have a decision to make. We can choose to live in fear and anxiety or in joy and peace. We choose between going forward or living in the past.

But, like the Magi, we can refuse to go in the direction of our fears, we can trust in that overwhelming joy we’ve experienced and listen to the God who is still speaking to us this very day, this very hour, this very moment!

I can think of no greater gift to bring to the Christ child than for us to trust and live each day in the joy that is the reason He came in the first place.

May you be reminded of God’s love for you, this Epiphany season and always,

Pastor Cindy
